Marvin Miller, a retired West Virginia State Employee who sings and plays guitar. He and his wife Caroline live in Clover West Virginia. Marvin was born in Loafer’s Valley near Glenville in Gilmer County. is a writer and has published two books. “The Hills are Calling”, and “ Tales of Loafer’s Valley”. Marvin has captured the spirit of the Mountains in his writings. Marvin sings the old traditional songs.
Kelly Evans is Marvin, and Caroline’s daughter who plays bass with the Possum Holler Pickers. She is married and the mother of two children Jocelyn and Clint. Kelly grew up in a musical household and adds her vocals to the old songs and plays great standup bass.
Rick Cale lives near Marvin in Clover. Rick plays Mandolin, and Banjo. Rick has been active in the Clover Volunteer Fire Department for many years and is retired which gives him more time to play.
John Elliott is a real treasure and at 82 years of age puts the rest of us to shame with his youthful energy. John is a Turkey Hunter of long standing and lives in Millstone in Calhoun County just east of Roane County. He spent many years in the oil industry. John is one of the principle singers in the Possum Holler Pickers.
We play every Thursday evening at Marvin’s out on Clover Ridge. Caroline always has a “snack” for the pickers. On Saturday morning we play at the Possum Holler Music Store in downtown Spencer where the Sarge sits in his chair and smokes his pipe while we play. The Sarge is a “died in the wool” George Jones fan but he is a true convert to the old time music that the Possum Holler Pickers like to play. On Saturday morning there is no telling who will show up to play. Anyone coming with a pure heart and love of the old time music is welcome from beginner to artist.
